Social worker and leader of Patidar community in Diamond City Surat, Kanji Bhalala will get the President’s Medal for his role as chief warden of Civil Defence. The medal was announced by the government on Wednesday on the eve of Republic Day. Bhalala is the only person from the state to get the medal. Civil Defence, Surat unit was founded in 1997 to train people to fight in times of disaster.
Bhalala has been actively working with Surat Civil Defence since 2001. He was appointed as the chief warden in 2020 after he worked in various junior positions. Bhalala is associated with various welfare organisations and working in multiple social causes. During the 2006 flood havoc, he worked with various social service organisations for relief and rescue.
